SAFETY

The University is committed to ensuring the safety and health of all its students, employees and visitors. In pursuit of this goal, the University promotes international standards of safety, health, radiation protection, and fire precautions.


he University's Safety and Health Policy applies to all University operations, both on and off campus. Detailed arrangements for implementing this policy are found in the following section on "Organization and Arrangements for Implementing the Policy".

The University will take all reasonably practicable steps within its power to meet this responsibility, paying particular attention to:

​

  • compliance with all relevant legal requirements;

  • identifying hazards, assessing risks and managing those risks;

  • ensuring that employees, students, visitors and contractors are adequately informed of those risks and, where appropriate, receive instruction, training, and supervision;

  • consulting with stakeholders on safety and health matters;

  • coordinating and cooperating with other employers where University employees or students share premises, facilities or activities with persons working for other organizations or where persons from other organizations are working in university controlled premises.

The University will monitor the performance of Deans and Heads in safety and health management of the risks under their control. A successful safety and health management programme demands a positive commitment from all University employees and students. All individuals have the responsibility to ensure that they do not create risks for themselves or others and to take all reasonable steps to protect themselves and others from any foreseeable risks associated with activities that are associated with the University.
